L.I.F.E. (Learning In Functional Environments) Skills

In the LIFE classroom we work on the skills needed for functioning in daily life.  Our basic goal is to prepare students to function as independently as possible when their years in school are over.  We cover the same subject areas depending on student need, but in more functional ways. For example:

Language Arts - communication; reading logos and environmental print, sight words, and safety signs; listening; writing; handwriting

Math - number recognition, matching, counting, one-to-one correspondence, sorting,

money identification, measurement, time

Social Studies - social skills and interaction, appropriate behavior in community settings,  recreation and leisure skills, shopping

Science - beginning food preparation, feeding, dressing, body parts, self care, housekeeping, plants, animals
