This past Wednesday, April 4th, Stacey had a total of nine individuals who placed in the top four in twelve different events at the District 30-A Track Meet! This is indeed a remarkable occurrence considering that the total number of participants in the varsity competition was thirteen. The entire varsity girls’ team will be advancing to the Area Meet in Harper. Starting the day at the District Meet in La Pryor, Stephanie Glatt (12:55.16) and Megan Benoit (13:31.83) placed first and third respectively in the eight-lap event. This will be the second trip for these two runners as they made the Area Meet and the Regional Meet last year. In the sprints, Victoria Wiggins easily won the finals in the 100-meter (12.55) and the 200-meter (26.32). Victoria, a senior, has attended the Area and Regional Meets her freshman, sophmore, and junior years and will no doubt be going to Huntsville this year. Victoria also attended the State Meet last year with Stephanie (1600 meter qualifier), in the 100-meter and 200-meter. Also advancing in the sprints will be Domini Davis who took second in the 400 meter (65.38 – Area qualifier). Domini placed fourth in the long jump (14’6” – Area qualifier) and took sixth in the 100-meter. Although she made the finals in the 200-meter, the long day wore this tough athlete down and she was not able to qualify in the 200-meter dash. In all, the girls’ team scored a total of sixty-one points and took fifth overall in this district meet. Not bad for these four competitors considering the winning team, Bracketville (154 points) had a total of twenty-five on the girls’ bus. In the boys’ division, Jovanny Ibarra took third place in the 3200-meter (11:50.54) and will get the chance to run again next Wednesday in Harper. David Clark placed third in the 400-meter (54.31 – Area qualifier), fifth in the 200-meter (24.70) and ran a tremendous anchor leg in the 1600-meter relay passing a runner just feet from the finish line to take fourth for his relay team (Area qualifiers). David was joined in the relay by Josh Knippel (first leg), Garrett Wimsatt (second leg), and Charles Atkinson (third leg). In the field events, Josh Knippel competed in the long jump and placed fourth (18’51/2” – Area qualifier). Later, in the 800-meter, Charles Atkinson ran a gutsy race in the 800-meter and took fourth in the event (2:07.74 – Area qualifier). This is indeed a remarkable event to have so many athletes come out of the district competition and advance to the next level. Way to work hard – luck has nothing to do with their success. Go get ‘em next Wednesday!
