The Stacey Cross Country Teams competed in their second competition of the season this past Friday and Saturday when they ran at Brooks City Base in the 6th Annual FEAST Cross Country Invitational Meet. On Friday, seventh-graders Christopher Carroll and Steven Glatt started off the meet by running the challenging 3200 meter course that had a number of designated obstacles such as hay bales, logs, short hurdles, and dirt mounds scattered throughout the course. Running in his first race, Christopher managed to hold onto a pretty good pace and medal with a fifteenth place finish (14:35). In the eighth grade race, Randy Hawes once again ran with the leaders and medaled with a ninth place finish (13:02). The next day, Stacey returned to run the high school divisions. In the first race, the Junior Varsity Boys took off (Daquan Hendricks, Jaime Ibarra, Joel Ibarra, and Tony Roach) for the hay bales and other obstacles on the five kilometer course. This was without doubt the toughest course these runners have seen, yet all improved on their times from the previous week’s race. In the Elite Varsity Boys race, Bobby Hawes ran a much stronger race this week as he finished sixth (17:07) in a division that contained some of the strongest runners in south Texas. Overall as a team (Bobby, Dardo Salgado @ 18:52, Jovanny Ibarra @ 19:09, Kelly Knippel @ 19:47, Cody Miller @ 20:12) finished fourth among other schools that are in 4-A and 5-A UIL categories. We in fact beat out schools such as Steele, Wagner, Highlands, and Kerrville Tivy. In the Girls’ Elite race, Stephanie Glatt and Tawnee Wimsatt held their own with the best as Stephanie took sixth (21:28) and Tawnee finished a respectable fourteenth (22:14) in a race of thirty very fast runners. |
