Bud to Boss Training for New Leaders

Several district leaders in the HR, business, operations and technology areas completed a 2-day Bud to Boss Workshop this week. The workshop is based on a book co-authored by Kevin Eikenberry and Guy Harris titled, From Bud to Boss: Secrets to a Successful Transition to Remarkable Leadership.

The 2-day training explored topics such as:

·         Succeeding in the Transition to Leadership

·         Working with Change

·         Becoming a Great Communicator

·         Coaching and Feedback

·         Collaborating with Others

·         Commitment to Success (Goal Setting)

One of the many engagement activities included a team-building activity illustrated below:

Throughout the workshop the participants were provided with opportunities to share leadership challenges and to learn practical steps to face the challenges with confidence.

The workshop was facilitated by a Certified Bud to Boss Trainer (and Chief Financial Officer for Lackland ISD), Rebecca Estrada.

Around the District

Lackland ISD has been asked to participate in “Go Public with Dave”,  a weekly segment on Channel 4 at 6:30 PM for all of 2019.

Image

Hosted and produced by David Chancellor, the segment’s goal is to highlight a student or students at schools throughout San Antonio. Each month features different program areas to create variety, but the main goal is to spotlight students and the wonderful, life-changing things happening every day. Our segment will feature the variety of clubs offered at Lackland ISD’s elementary and secondary campuses, and will air February 25th at 6:30 pm on WOAI channel 4!

Lackland ISD Survey Results

Teachers and Staff Share

Thank you for taking advantage of the opportunity to share your voice as members of the Lackland ISD learning organization by participating in the Fall 2018 survey opportunities.  The links below will give you access to reports.  These reports will share results and comparison data for survey results from Spring 2017 – Fall 2018.

Lackland ISD Teachers and Staff from both the elementary and secondary campuses have the opportunity to participate in the survey.  The survey solicits feedback related to teacher and staff-school relationships.  This survey measures Educating All Students, Feedback and Coaching, Professional Learning, School Climate, School Leadership, and Teaching Efficacy.  You are encouraged to review the results of teacher and staff surveys and engage with your child’s teachers and campus personnel to support us in improvement efforts.

In addition to the survey opportunities, teachers and staff were asked to provide specific feedback regarding two things our schools do well and two things we could do to improve.  Accolades shared were related to access to technology and choice of professional development. Consistent enforcement of the rules, and communication are areas where growth is a welcomed opportunity.   Campus and district teams are currently reviewing data and developing plans to inform learning organization priorities towards continuous improvement.  Our goal is to provide periodic updates regarding actions taken.

We share this information with you to enlist your continued engagement with the survey and our efforts towards continuous improvement. We aim to invest more time and effort in areas that will positively impact our ability to fulfill our vision, mission, and beliefs as your school district.

In addition to the survey opportunities, parents were asked to provide specific feedback regarding two things our schools do well and two things we could do to improve.  Accolades shared were related to class size, S2S, SFA, the use of communication apps, and teacher’s dedication to the students. Consistent enforcement of the rules, electronic use on school buses, embracing students’ cultures, and communication for upcoming events are areas where growth is a welcomed opportunity.   Campus and district teams are currently reviewing data and developing plans to inform learning organization priorities towards continuous improvement.  Our goal is to provide periodic updates regarding actions taken.  To date, some of our actions have included providing specials night, family fitness day, the PTSO fall festival flash mob, and the parent lunch bunch as additional family engagement activities.

We share this information with you to enlist your continued engagement with the survey and our efforts towards continuous improvement.  Please check back in subsequent weeks to see the results of the staff and teacher surveys.  We aim to invest more time and effort in areas that will positively impact our ability to fulfill our vision, mission, and beliefs as your school district.

Eagles move on in Playoffs

The boys varsity basketball team beat Junction HS in their Bi-district playoff game 35-31. The team was led in scoring by Dejon Johnson with 17 points. The story of the night was the unbelievable team and individual defense played by these young men. The next playoff game is Friday February 22, 2019 vs. Thorndale HS in Lockhart, TX. Game time is set for 7:00 pm.

Saturday February 16, 2019 was a busy day for the Bots in Blue.

Mrs. Rebecca Huerta and SSgt Austin Ellsworth were on hand as the FTC team participated in the Alamo Regional Wildcard competition at Brandies High School. Lt. Robert Batzler and Mr. Kenneth Kinsey took the Junior High School FLL team to a Regional Qualifying tournament at Southwest Texas Junior College in Uvalde.

While neither team was able to advance to the next round of competition, some great memories were made and a lot of fun was had.

The High School team is now preparing for the FRC season and will be competing at John Jay High School on March 8-12 and in Del Rio on March 22-24.

Jr. High Dance

by: Zoria LaCour, junior

On Friday, February 15, the senior class hosted a Valentine’s Day dance for the junior high students. Dance-goers were provided with colorful cookies and cupcakes to match the heart filled theme. The senior class also partnered with the PTSO to provide pizza and various other snacks. Junior high attendants also had access to photography by Abriana Himantog and Cassedy Ryan, as well as music provided by junior class DJ Larry LaCour. The students lit up the dance floor with the best moves that they could until the party was over. The senior class would to thank all those who attended, and everyone who helped in the process of putting it together.

Lackland Soaring Eagles FLL Team at Competition

This past Saturday, Feb. 16, the elementary school’s FIRST Lego League (FLL) team, coached by Ms. Kickler and Mrs. Johnson, attended a regional competition here in San Antonio. It was a rigorous but rewarding day of judging and robotics competition. Although the team, Lackland Soaring Eagles, didn’t win any awards, they learned a lot, had tons of fun, and scored some points during the robot competition! Congrats to our fabulous Eagles!
