On May 2nd and 3rd Zach Born traveled to Austin to compete in the UIL 2A State Track & Field meet at Mike A. Myers stadium at the University of Texas, Austin. On Friday morning, Zach ran the 3200M race. The race for the podium was closely contested from start to finish. Going into the last lap, Zach was in 5th place, but less than a second behind 2nd place. On the back stretch, the pack started to pull away from Zach, but Zach closed the gap going into the last turn. As the pack turned the corner for the last 100m, Zach started his kick and ran to an impressive 3rd place finish with a time of 9:58.901. Shortly after the race concluded, the weather forced the meet to be postponed to Saturday.
On Saturday afternoon, Zach ran the 1600M race. As the race started, Zach settled into 3rd place. Going into the last lap, he was still in 3rd with the 4th place runner starting to make a move. Zach held his ground and by the last 200M the 4th place runner had fallen back. That left Zach and a runner from Bosqueville to battle it out for 2nd place. When they made the turn for the last 100M, Zach ran past and never looked back. Zach finished in 2nd place with a time of 4:28.074 which is a new school record.
Congratulations to Zach on a fantastic finish to the season!!
