Boss’s Day, also known as National Boss’s Day, is an annual observance that provides an opportunity to appreciate and show gratitude to employers, supervisors, and bosses for their leadership, support, and guidance in the workplace. This day acknowledges the role of bosses in fostering a positive work environment and motivating their teams. Boss’s Day is a time for employees to express their thanks and recognition for the contributions of their superiors.
Boss’s Day is observed annually on October 16th in the United States and various other countries. In 2025, this special day falls on a Wednesday, providing a convenient occasion for employees to express their appreciation to their bosses.
Boss’s Day was initiated by Patricia Bays Haroski, an employee at State Farm Insurance Company in Illinois. She registered Boss’s Day with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in 1958, intending to create a day for employees to express appreciation to their bosses. The date of October 16th was chosen to coincide with her father’s birthday, who was also her boss.

Learning is tough work-and kids need fuel if they’re going to learn! That’s why a healthy midday meal is crucial to the growing children who go to school. Since 1962, when President John F. Kennedy created National School Lunch Week (NSLW), this annual observance has promoted the importance of a healthy school lunch in a child’s life and the impact it has both in and out of the classroom.
Even though National School Lunch Week was declared in 1962, the National School Lunch Program goes back even further, back to 1946. Created to provide nutritious meals to children from low-income families who might not otherwise have access to a daily meal, NSLP ensures the health and well-being of all public school students, boosts academic performance by giving students the fuel they need to succeed, and closes the opportunity gap for children across the country. Today, the National School Lunch Program serves nearly 30 million children every school day. Not only does it reduce childhood hunger, but it also supports American agriculture.
Thank you to the amazing cafeteria team at Lackland ISD!

Lackland ISD continues to strive toward improving communication.
ParentSquare is a communication platform. Through the platform, you’ll be able to:
*Receive all district, school, and classroom communication via email, text, or app
*View the school and classroom calendar and RSVP for events
*Easily sign up to volunteer and/or bring items
*Securely receive important documents like report cards and other student documents
For the best ParentSquare experience, we recommend that you download and install the app. The name is ParentSquare, and it can easily be found in your device’s app store. If you don’t have a device, no need to worry: the platform is capable of both text and email, and you can log on via the web as well. ParentSquare receives its contact information from the Ascender Parent Portal. Please take a moment to make sure that you have the latest contact information on file there.
Parent Square Notifications
Under General Announcements, you can select how often you want to receive notifications for posts. Select Off, Instant or Digest notifications.
Off:no notifications about posts will be sent to you. Emergency Alerts and Notices will still be sent. School Alerts will still be sent if turned on.
Instant:you'll receive an email and/or text and/or an app notification every time a notice or message is sent.
Digest:you'll receive an email and/or text and/or an app notification once a day in the evening with all posts from that day.
The default setting is typically Digest, so that you receive all notices and post messages in one convenient notification once a day. All emergency notifications still come through instantly, and a school can override settings as needed for an urgent message.

On Wednesday, Stacey students who had no missing assignments during the first nine weeks of school were treated to a sweet reward at the Lyon Center. As part of an incentive program, these dedicated students enjoyed a variety of ice cream treats, including Nutty Buddy cones, ice cream sandwiches, crispy bars, and popsicles. The event celebrated their hard work and commitment to staying on top of their schoolwork. This incentive will continue in future grading cycles for students in all grade levels.
Way to go!

Stacey staff had a chance to channel their inner artists on Monday with a painting exercise in the Lyon Center. Participants painted a fall scene with a gradient moon, a spooky tree, pumpkins and their own individual twists. The event provided a colorful break from routine and a chance for staff to unwind and express their creativity. Thank you to art teacher Enrique Martinez and everyone who had a hand in setting this up.

No Cell Phones, No Problem, Let’s Uno
Personal communication devices are not allowed during the school day per Texas Law, specifically House Bill 1481. Stacey students are doing a fantastic job with keeping their cell phones, smartwatches, air pods stored throughout the day. They have found new ways to connect at lunch with a friendly game of UNO.

A new addition to the Stacey family, we welcome Mr. Jacob Shumway. Originally from Riverside, California, he is currently working as an instructional aide on the Stacey campus.
Where are you originally from, and where have you lived?
He's from Riverside, California, and lived in Orange County, California, for college. He went to Cal State University Fullerton and also lived in Clarksville, Tennessee.
What made you want to work at Stacey?
He looked at multiple school districts and schools. After visiting Lackland and doing the first interview, he liked the mission statement and the close-knit community. Also, his wife got orders to JBSA, which helped make the decision.
What did you do before working at Stacey?
He was in the Army for 11 years as an infantryman. About 8 months after getting out of the Army, he got into education and worked at a middle school in Tennessee as an 8th grade social studies teacher aide.
What’s today's morning motivation?
"The best way to predict the future is to create it."
What do you do in your free time?
He loves to hang out with his family and plays in two adult soccer leagues.
If you could see where you are now in life, what piece of advice would you give to your younger self?
"Slow down, think about it—don’t be impulsive."
What’s one fun or surprising fact about you that most people don’t know?
"This is embarrassing, but I love my wife's trash reality TV shows—and my favorite is Love is Blind."
What’s your favorite part about working at Stacey?
As cliché as it sounds, working with you guys (the students) and seeing how you grow throughout the year.
How do you stay motivated when things get challenging?
"It’s always okay to ask for help, and I always think about my family—how we have goals, and how we need to keep pushing to achieve them."
What’s one thing you hope to achieve while working here at Stacey?
"Right now, I’m an aide, but eventually, I’d like to get back into the classroom and be a teacher."
Thank you Mr. Shumway

Mr. Garcia's friend, the curriculum director for the Alamo Trust education department and her colleagues who run the STEM program came out to our 4th / 5th grade art club! They presented a powerpoint about the recent discovery of fresco murals in the original Alamo. Frescos last for thousands of years because the paint is applied when the plaster is still wet becoming a part of the wall. The oldest discovered is 5000 years old. Students were able to apply plaster to a backing and paint on it replicating the ancient process that was brought to Texas from Europe. It was a wonderful opportunity and learning experience for all. The visitors could not get over how talented our students are!

Our students are having fun exploring fall, leaves, pumpkins, and even a ghost named Gustavo! We have been using chalk to create great images of pumpkins and the protagonist in our read aloud. Students heard about our Family Literacy Project this week, too. A flyer with information about creating a Storybook Pumpkin to display in the library will be coming out in the next day or two. Students are invited to use a real pumpkin or a plastic pumpkin to make a book character for display. Every student that participates will earn a free book of their choosing. This is one of the benefits of our Literati Book Fair. Big fun! Happy reading Eagles!

Greetings to our GT Community!
Fall has officially arrived, even if the weather hasn't quite gotten the message! This is the perfect time in the semester to consider a couple of things:
Mid-Semester Check-In: We are just shy of the halfway mark for the first semester. It’s a good time to assess how things are going academically and socially for your child. The Parent /Teacher conference coming this month is a great tool for starting this conversation.
Fall Activities: October is ripe with opportunities for family activities—think pumpkin patches, apple picking, and fall festivals. These outings can be a great way to make memories and offer a fun break from the usual routine.
