Lackland ISD is committed to safeguarding the data of our students, parents, and employees, and we have policies and procedures in place to protect sensitive data.

Despite our best efforts, though, data breaches do periodically occur.  When that happens, information about the breach is posted here.  To view the details of a breach, click on the title(s) below.

  • Lackland ISD has received notification from Instructure, the provider of the Canvas learning management system, that district data was involved in a security incident on April 29, 2026. Based on Instructure's current investigation, the following data elements may have been accessed:

    • First and last names
    • Email addresses
    • Student ID numbers
    • Messages exchanged among Canvas users

     

    Lackland ISD does not store dates of birth, Social Security numbers, or any financial information in Canvas.

    At this time, there is no indication that passwords were involved, and no specific action regarding password changes has been recommended

     

    What You Can Do

     

    Families and staff can take the following precautions:

    • Be cautious of unexpected emails or messages
    • Remind students not to share login credentials
    • Report any suspicious activity to the district

     

    District Response

     

    Instructure has identified the mechanism used to gain access to its systems and has disabled it. Canvas access for Lackland ISD will remain temporarily unavailable while the district, out of an abundance of caution, rotates certain security information.

    Teachers have been instructed to extend assignment deadlines or provide alternative submission methods where necessary.

    Lackland ISD is also working with appropriate local, state, and federal resources in response to this incident.

     

    Additional Information

     

    This incident originated within a third-party system and not within district-managed systems. Lackland ISD will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as additional verified information becomes available.
