Lackland ISD Celebrates School Board Recognition Month

Lackland ISD’s Board of Trustees

board
January is School Board Recognition Month, and we are grateful for the dedicated men and women who serve our District as Trustees. Our Board of Trustees is deeply committed to ensuring that military-connected students are provided with the highest-quality learning opportunities. Through their voluntary service and steadfast leadership, they work tirelessly to advance the District’s vision and mission. We sincerely appreciate their advocacy and support for our students, staff, and the learning organization as a whole.

We invite you to reflect on the results and join us again during the Spring 2026 Climate Survey. As a thank-you for participating, respondents will have the opportunity to win Lackland ISD swag.
Together, we believe that collaboration, communication, and shared ownership help us better serve our students and community. Thank you for being an active partner in our continuous improvement efforts.

Lackland ISD Library Book Donations and Purchase Preview Process

book
In accordance with Policy EFB (Local), all new library book donations and purchases must be available for community review for a minimum of 30 days before they can be approved by the Lackland ISD Board of Trustees and added to library shelves.
To ensure transparency, Lackland ISD will publish a list of proposed book titles 30 days before Board approval. Each title will include all applicable ISBN formats (paperback, hardcover, e-book, audiobook, etc.).

Important: Posting a list does not mean every title will be adopted. Individual titles may be excluded based on feedback or district review.

Below are current lists of titles to be considered within the noted 30-day review period and projected date for Board of Trustees’ consideration. If you would like to provide feedback on any proposed title, please use the feedback form link provided. Your input will be considered by the district before final decisions are made.

ParentSquare

Lackland ISD continues to strive toward improving communication.

ParentSquare is a communication platform. Through the platform, you’ll be able to:

*Receive all district, school, and classroom communication via email, text, or app
*View the school and classroom calendar and RSVP for events
*Easily sign up to volunteer and/or bring items
*Securely receive important documents like report cards and other student documents

For the best ParentSquare experience, we recommend that you download and install the app. The name is ParentSquare, and it can easily be found in your device’s app store. If you don’t have a device, no need to worry: the platform is capable of both text and email, and you can log on via the web as well. ParentSquare receives its contact information from the Ascender Parent Portal. Please take a moment to make sure that you have the latest contact information on file there.
Parent Square Notifications

Under General Announcements, you can select how often you want to receive notifications for posts. Select Off, Instant or Digest notifications.

Off:no notifications about posts will be sent to you. Emergency Alerts and Notices will still be sent. School Alerts will still be sent if turned on.
Instant:you'll receive an email and/or text and/or an app notification every time a notice or message is sent.
Digest:you'll receive an email and/or text and/or an app notification once a day in the evening with all posts from that day.

The default setting is typically Digest, so that you receive all notices and post messages in one convenient notification once a day. All emergency notifications still come through instantly, and a school can override settings as needed for an urgent message.

Library Scoop

What a wonderful, short week! We had a great group of families visit on Wednesday afternoon for the Special's Showcase! Parents and their students visited each of the special's classrooms to see what interesting activities are going on.
In the library this week, we discussed the season of winter. Some of our classes began a project based on force and motion, and will complete their project at our next visit. We talked and read about snow and wintry weather just in time for a cold blast coming to San Antonio. We are looking forward to a couple of special visitors in the library. Our fourth and fifth graders will meet Mrs. Keranin from the Texas Wildlife Association next week to explore skins and skulls with some awesome hands-on learning! And in just over a month, Lackland Elementary will welcome an author and illustrator who will share some of his books with all of us! Whoo hoo! Happy reading!
