Health Curriculum Components
-
Health Education is a component of the Coordinated School Health Model, which consists of a planned, sequential, K-12 curriculum that addresses the physical, mental, emotional and social dimensions of health. The curriculum is designed to motivate and assist students to maintain and improve their health, prevent disease, and reduce health-related risk behaviors. It allows students to develop and demonstrate increasingly sophisticated health-related knowledge, attitudes, skills, and practices.
Lackland ISD's School Health Advisory committee recommended and received Board of Trustee approval to adopt the Great Body Shop as the curriculum resource for students in Kindergarten through Eighth Grade. -

Lackland ISD uses three resources for health and human sexuality instruction, The Great Body Shop (K-8), Goodheart-Wilcox Texas Health Skills for Middle School (6-8), and Goodheart-Wilcox Texas Health Skills for High School. The description of each curricular resource is as follows:
The Great Body Shop is a comprehensive state-approved health education curriculum that is sequential, developmentally appropriate, culturally sensitive, and medically accurate. The Great Body Shop contains the most reliable and up-to-date information aligned to National Health Education Standards, the National Sexuality Education Standards, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Characteristics of Effective Health Education Curricular, the core concepts recommended by CDC’s HECAT and the Texas Education Knowledge and Skills.
